PPS: Probably worth following this up by its sequel (third and last AC game on PlayStation), Armored Core: Master of Arena (1999). So I can’t speak much about balance, though I suspect some glaring issues… (the FINGER, anyone?)īut was/is it a good game? Definitely, if only for that fully-customizable experience 😉 I do confess, of all games on this site, this is the only one I actually didn’t finish (I was too much of a kid back then and this was a bit too “techie” for me). But hey, dialogue is fully voiced (if kinda poorly)! 😛 Music and SFXs are hmmkay ( titular highlight). But the gameplay is fairly smooth otherwise. Trust me, it plays much better than it looks 😬Ĭuz let’s be honest, graphics are a bit dated. Experimentation is also highly encouraged, because…Īside from taking random contracts (campaign missions), there’s also Arena battles! On top of that, you can even customize the paint-job and insignia. Now, you might be wondering… what the hell do you need money for? You take on contracts, earn cash, pay for expenses (ammo, damage repairs), move plot forward, rinse and repeat. You’re hired by some nameless, untraceable, unknown client to investigate the ~~WARNING, WARNING, INCOMING CRINGE~~ “Doomsday Organization” and its involvement with something only known as Project Phantasma (some kind of neural-technology weapon). Story goes something like this: you’re a “Raven” (basically a freelance/mercenary mech pilot). But somehow this one really grew on me as a child.

This one’s the second in the series (the direct sequel to the original Armored Core released earlier the same year), but there’s like 20 titles by now? I’m also not into mech games. Never played any other Armored Core game.
